Addington Heritage Evening

This event is a co-operative effort between St.Mary’s, the Addington Neighbourhood Association with support from the Christchurch City Council Heritage team.

  • Fiona Lees will discuss Augustus Jens Amil Schwartz ,who arrived in New Zealand from Copenhagen in 1867 and had a very close connection with Saint Mary’s for many years and also a long and distinguished career with the Public Works Department.
  • Carl Bonniface will recall living and working in Addington with amusing anecdotes about working at the Addington Workshops.
  • Graham Thompson will speak about the history of 320 Selwyn Street(recently demolished-formerly “The Silvan” gallery and cafe and Tass Appliances)
  • Gareth Wright will have a topic about the Heritage listed Addington Cemetery.
  • Music will be provided by David Lloyd and Blanche Fryer(had sung at “The Silvan”).

Evening will finish with tea, coffee, iced buns and conversations.
